Civic Educator of the Year Award

Every year at the Oregon Civics Conference, Classroom Law Project awards one teacher the Civic Educator of the Year Award. The award is meant to honor an educator who has had significant impact on their students and on the Oregon civics community. Each honoree is awarded at the Plenary Session of the Oregon Civics Conference and is recognized again at CLP’s prestigious Spring Jonathan U. Newman Legal Citizen of the Year Dinner. Beginning in 2019, we would like to invite you to nominate an educator you believe exemplifies all of the qualities listed below in the Award Guidelines.

Nominations are open May 1 – August 31, 2019

A CLP Civic Educator of the Year Awardee:
  • Is a K-12 educator in Oregon
  • Has participated in CLP programs for at least 5 years
  • Has participated in training other educators or assisting other educators with resources & regularly shares their expertise to help others in their professional community
  • Actively collaborates with colleagues, students, families, & other stakeholders to create a strong culture of Civic Education & Engagement
  • Has the respect and admiration of students, parents, colleagues, and the community
  • Inspires creativity, critical thinking, active learning, and civic participation
  • is nominated by a colleague, administrator, community member, or participant of a CLP program
  • May 1, 2019 – Nominations open
  • August 30, 2019 – Nominations close
  • September 15, 2019 – CLP awards nominee
  • December 6, 2019 – Awardee is presented at the Oregon Civics Conference
  • April 23, 2020 – Awardee & students presented at the annual CLP Legal Citizen Award Dinner
To Nominate a Civic Educator of the Year:
  • You must personally know your nominee – direct experience of their professional contributions is recommended
  • You must be able to explain and/or provide evidence of the above qualifications when you complete the nomination form
  • You do not need to inform your nominee you have submitted, but you cannot submit anonymously
