Abby Cohort Program

 

Civics Learning Project has launched a new cohort program for the 2019-20 School Year!

 

In honor of Abigail Scott Duniway, Oregon’s pioneer for universal suffrage and an intrepid journalist, activist, and organizer, we have formed a year-long cohort of Civics Educators from around the state. Our purpose is to build a professional learning community that learns together about how the Constitution has changed over time with regard to issues that affect our students every day. We will practice fresh strategies around issues which will include the 100th anniversary of gender suffrage, the upcoming election year, and the evolution of student rights and participation.

About the Abby Cohort:

Thanks to generous donations and a grant from the Randall Charitable Trust, Abby Cohort Participants benefit from the following throughout the year:

      • Free registration and participation in the 2019 Summer Institute
      • Travel, lodging, substitute coverage, and free registration for a fall semester professional development workshop
      • Travel, lodging, and free registration for a spring semester professional development workshop
      • Travel, lodging, substitute coverage, and free registration to attend and present or participate in the Annual Oregon Civics Conference
      • An ongoing digital network and learning community throughout the year to provide ideas, support, and connection
      • Civics Learning Project’s personal mentorship, classroom visits, resources, and support
      • Evaluations to begin measuring how best to meet the Civics education needs of Oregon Students
